Man Utd trying to drive down Alex Telles fee in ‘£75k-a-week salary’

Manchester United are getting close to a deal for Alex Telles which would see him sign for £75,000-a-week – but they want to cut down his transfer fee.

The Red Devils are reportedly edging closer to a move for the Brazilian full-back who has expressed a desire to leave Porto.

After negotiations with the Portuguese side throughout the week, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side made “concrete progress” over the weekend.

But the Guardian have reported that United are still pushing to get even more out of the deal.

Telles is valued at €40m [£36.7m] in his contract at the Primeira Liga side – but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side want to cut it down to €25m [£22.9m].

This is because the 27-year-old is in the final year of his contract with Porto and he would be joining in a deal worth £75,000 a week.

United have made just one signing this summer, bringing Donny van de Beek to the Premier League from Ajax.

And Solskjaer recently explained why there have been so many struggles for the Premier League giants during the transfer window.

He said: “It's not as big a pool as for other clubs, because part of Man United and being good enough is one thing.

“Then you've got another club that probably want to keep that type of player of that quality. My focus is us, of course.

“We sit down and we discuss and we have plans, sometimes it doesn't happen as planned. Life isn't a straight line here. Sometimes things happen.

“I've always said, these players, I'm very happy to work with them. Of course, I'm not going to take anything away from them either, because we have to go into this season confident with how we did towards the end of the season. We need that consistency, of course, to start with. That's key.

“And transfers, there's still a few weeks left on the transfer window. It might happen that we get someone in. I work with a club and they know what I feel this team and the squad needs.
