Man Utd star Odion Ighalo makes permanent transfer decision to please Red Devils

Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo is prepared to half his current salary in order to seal a permanent move to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window. Ighalo, who is currently at United on loan deal until the end of the season from Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, has made an impressive start to his Red Devils’ career.

The 30-year-old has scored four goals in eight appearances for United in all competitions.

However, Ighalo is currently on a reported £240,000-a-week deal with Shanghai Shenhua.

But according to The Sun, Ighalo is prepared to take a 50 per cent pay cut to stay at the club he loves and supported as a young boy.

This means he would be willing to reduce his annual salary by just over £6million to make the move a permanent one.

United are unlikely to offer him the same terms he is currently on with Shanghai Shenhua and the former Watford striker is okay with that, if it means he can stay at Old Trafford.

Ighalo’s current contract expires on New Year’s Eve 2021, but under the current loan agreement United do have the option to buy the player in the summer window.

Shanghai Shenhua only paid £5.27m for Ighalo last February, but will be looking for around three times that from United is they want to buy him at the end of the season.

According to the Mirror, Shanghai Shenhua want United to pay £15m to keep Ighalo.

And while the buy option exists it is claimed that no fee was agreed when the player made the switch to Old Trafford on deadline day in the January window.

United have been in the market for a striker since they sold Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan last summer.

The club failed in their attempts to sign Erling Haaland from RB Salzburg in January, with the Norwegian striker opting to join Borussia Dortmund instead.

Ighalo was seen as a risky signing by some, as the striker had only scored one goal in 18 games for Watford in his previous campaign in the Premier League back in the 2016/17 season.

However, the Nigerian has impressed boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has praised the forward and admitted that the club “will still need those qualities next season”.

“Odion has done really well since he came in and he is enjoying himself,” said Solskjaer.

“He will improve and get better, but he has qualities we saw in him and we needed and we will still need those qualities next season, so let’s see what we will do.”
