Manchester United staff members have been ‘struck’ by the politeness of Lisandro Martinez while also being impressed by Antony, according to reports. Both players joined from Ajax back in the summer transfer window. And they’re set to be key assets for Erik ten Hag as he looks to finally bring the Premier League title back to Old Trafford this season.

Manchester United signed Martinez from Ajax at the end of July, paying a huge £56.7million to bring the Argentina international to Old Trafford.

And, on transfer deadline day, the Red Devils again raided Ajax to bring in Antony – with a huge £84m deal making him the club’s third most-expensive signing of all time.

United have seen both players enjoy good starts to their respective spells at the club, helping Ten Hag’s side bounce back after a torrid start to the campaign.

And the Manchester Evening News say the pair have both made an instant impression on staff members behind the scenes.

When it comes to Martinez, it’s said United workers have been ‘struck’ by the politeness of the 24-year-old.

They feel his fluent English has helped him to adjust to life in the Premier League, with the player described as ‘particularly vocal in training’.

Martinez has also reportedly been helpful to the academy players who have been promoted to the first team.

And he’s also been happy to involve himself with other age groups as he looks to make the most of his time at United.

Regarding Antony, staff members have ‘buzzed off’ the Brazilian’s character and how happy he is to be at Old Trafford.

The Samba star has done well enough so far, with a debut goal in the recent 3-1 win over Arsenal the highlight of his time at the club so far.

Ajax weren’t happy when Antony decided to go on strike to ensure his move to England went ahead.

But United, on the other hand, were ‘impressed by that attitude and eagerness’.

The report also sheds light on how some of United’s other new signings have been doing at the club so far.

Christian Eriksen initially drove Martinez and Tyrell Malacia to training, with the latter arriving from Feyenoord and becoming the club’s first signing of the transfer window in the process.

Eriksen is said to be ‘especially grateful’ to United having never expected to play in England before following his move from Tottenham to Inter Milan in January 2020.

Casemiro is a ‘quiet leader’ who has already earned the respect of the dressing room after touching down from Real Madrid.

And though Malacia is regarded as the quietest of United’s new signings, he’s been staying after training for ‘additional gym sessions’.

Regarding Martinez, meanwhile, Jaap Stam has criticised those who took aim at the Argentine’s height following his move to England.

Some, such as Jamie Carragher, think the 24-year-old is too small to thrive in such a tough league.

But Stam doesn’t buy into that narrative and, speaking recently, said: “That was an easy one, the day when he signed for United, I had already said they will talk about his height.

“Over here [England], everyone thinks as a centre-back you need to be big and tall, otherwise you won’t make it.

“The thing is, you need to look at the big picture of how the manager wants to play because that’s the most important thing.

“He wants to play dominating football, meaning you need to have players at the back who are comfortable on the ball.

“Of course, sometimes he’s going to get surprised, but that’s what also happens with big players – they make mistakes as well.

“Martinez shows his quality on the ball, he shows his quality when defending and his communication around him is good.

“He just needs to keep going.”
