Man Utd given headache and Erik ten Hag makes telling decision in Palace win

Manchester United produced their best performance of the season on Tuesday night to cruise past Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup third round. Alejandro Garnacho, Casemiro and Anthony Martial’s goals sealed a comfortable 3-0 win as Erik ten Hag’s side started the defence of their crown.
Express Sport runs through four key talking points from Old Trafford as United made it back-to-back wins for the first time this term.
Garnacho gives United headache
Garnacho is one of Europe’s most exciting teenage wingers, and the new long-term contract he signed in the summer indicated how highly United rate him.
The 19-year-old opened his account for the season to break the deadlock and looked a bright spark throughout the evening down the left.
But Ten Hag seems to view Garnacho as a left winger and nothing else. That creates a headache when Marcus Rashford – who also penned a bumper deal in the summer – operates in the same position.
United can’t afford to stall Garnacho’s development. And Ten Hag may soon have to experiment by using him on the right to ensure he’s getting the minutes he deserves.

Mount arrives at Old Trafford
Mason Mount struggled to convince in his opening two games as a United player after completing a £60million switch from Chelsea in the summer.
But after a spell on the sidelines, Mount came alive during a 45-minute performance at Old Trafford on his return.
The 24-year-old maintained a 93 per cent pass accuracy and created three chances, providing the assist for Casemiro’s header.
His half-time withdrawal suggests that Ten Hag plans to start him again for the rematch on Saturday.

Amrabat offers clear upgrade
Sofyan Amrabat made his highly-anticipated maiden start for United against Palace, and he certainly didn’t disappoint.
The Moroccan star operated in an inverted left-back role, covering for Ten Hag’s three injured options, and produced a sensational hour-long display.
Amrabat completed 78 passes during the game, a higher tally than the 49 Scott McTominay has managed in 203 minutes all season.
Ten Hag wanted him for a reason. And it’s no coincidence that his side showcased such an improved performance after introducing two technical geniuses in Mount and Amrabat. He will prove to be some signing.
