Manchester United transfer target Amadou Haidara spoke fondly of interim manager Ralf Rangnick, explaining how he “played a very big role in my career”. The RB Leipzig midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford ever since Rangnick replaced the sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Haidara was signed for the Bundesliga giants from Red Bull Salzburg during Rangnick’s reign at the club in January 2019.

The German manager also heavily encouraged the dynamic midfielder to remain with Leipzig, after his departed the club and was replaced by Julian Nagelsmann.

Various sources have claimed Rangnick is set to be handed a £100million transfer war chest to strengthen United in the upcoming January transfer window.

And amidst the various rumours linking Haidara with a move to the red-half of Manchester, the 23-year-old has emphasised Rangnick’s huge influence during their time together.

“Yes, Ralf played a very big role in my career,” Haidara said in a recent interview with SportBild.

“Don’t forget: when Leipzig wanted to get me, I tore my cruciate ligament. But Ralf said that I should come anyway. I wouldn’t have expected that back then.

“I’m very grateful to him because he really wanted me and gave me great confidence as a coach in Leipzig. He later told me to stay with RB and trust that Julian Nagelsmann would make me better.”

Haidara has made 12 Bundesliga appearances and scored two goals from central midfield for Leipzig this season.

While he is a central midfielder by trade, the Malian international is an extremely versatile player, who also has experience in the wider positions.

However, with doubts over Scott McTominay and Fred’s defensive midfield partnership continuing to linger, Haidara has emerged as a possible target in January.

Having already been ingratiated amongst Rangnick’s furious ‘Gegenpressing’ philosophy, there is little surprise he has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Moreover, Haidara has also previously said he supported Manchester United and looked up to Cristiano Ronaldo when he was a youngster, which has also naturally prompted further links to the club.

“Everyone had a favourite team as a kid. Mine was Manchester United, Haidara also said to SportBild.

“I was a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, I liked Paul Scholes, Patrice Evra, Edwin van der Sar, Anderson. But if you want to talk to me about rumours: I’m at Leipzig and I feel good.”

Rangnick’s has enjoyed a positive start to life at Old Trafford with two consecutive 1-0 victories in his first two Premier League matches.

However, the Reds’ Monday night away fixture against Brentford was postponed, amidst a recent Coronavirus outbreak amongst United ‘s first-team and players.

While the Red Devils did not divulge exactly how many players and staff had tested positive for Covid-19, the Manchester Evening News claimed to be aware of at least four positive cases at the club.

As it stands, United are set to take on Brighton and Hove Albion at Old Trafford in their next match.
