Man Utd fans in awe of Phil Jones as defender shines on comeback vs Wolves

Manchester United fans have praised the performance of Phil Jones after the outcast defender made his first senior start in almost two years on Monday evening.

The 29-year-old featured in the starting line-up for the first time since a 6-0 win over Tranmere Rovers back in January 2020 and has suffered a nightmare comeback from injury.

Jones missed the entirety of the previous campaign due to a long-term knee problem but was named in the initial 11 to take to the field against Wolves in the Premier League this evening.

And despite a late Joao Moutinho strike condemning the Red Devils to a 1-0 defeat, Jones' comeback game received high praise from Man Utd supporters who were in awe of his performance.

"Tell you something else as well, Phil Jones was very good today. Hardly put a foot wrong and did his job well," said one fan.

"Yes we lost but Phil Jones was brilliant today and I do not want to see Maguire come back in for him," commented another.

While one United supporter claimed Jones should now be one of the first names on the teamsheet: "Start Phil Jones every game, I don’t even care. He’s got more fight than the rest of them clowns put together."

And it wasn't just supporters who were impressed with Jones' showing with Luke Shaw paying tribute to his teammate when speaking to Sky Sports after the match.

"One thing I will say is Phil Jones should be proud of himself," said the Man Utd left-back.

"He has been criticised for years and has gone through a lot, but he is so professional and he has trained hard and he was phenomenal.

"He was exceptional, I am very happy for him and he deserves it."
