Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer issues worrying Anthony Martial injury update

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

The France international was absent as United took on Club Brugge in the Europa League on Thursday which Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed was due to injury.

The 24-year-old had been in fine form of late scoring in each of his last three appearances, with the extent of his current problem not yet known.

His Norwegian boss said: ”He didn't feel right after training yesterday.

“He walked off during training and he's injured.

“Hopefully it won't be too bad but I don't really know yet how long he'll be [out for]."

The former Monaco man had given his side a slender advantage in the tie by scoring the equaliser in the first leg, prompting Solskjaer to challenge him to continue that run.

“If you’re a wide forward, you’re facing forwards more and running at people," the former Cardiff boss said.

"Now he’s in a different position, where it is more physical and you’ve got to be stronger with your back to goal and be more patient.

"It’s your job to be in the box when the ball arrives. I’m still at him. I demand more of him.

"Sometimes, the ball is squared across the six-yard line and it’s where he should be.

“I just nudge him and say: ‘It should have been a goal for you’. Scoring 25 instead of 15 is a big difference for a No.9.”

Martial has managed 15 goals in all competitions and looked certain to break his previous best of 17, but today’s news is set to hamper his chances.

Despite that update, Solskjaer will still be confident that his side will come out on top with Odion Ighalo making his first start since joining on loan.

The former Molde boss said: "(Ighalo) is focused, been looking forward to this. We must play well and create chances for him and go through."
