Manchester United players to pay emotional Old Trafford tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton before Champions League clash with Copenhagen

Old Trafford will pay an emotional tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton before Manchester United’s Champions League tie against FC Copenhagen following his death at the age of 86.

Players will wear black armbands and wreaths will be laid before a minute’s silence is observed for the United and England legend.

United manager Erik ten Hag and his squad wrote personal messages in memory of Charlton at Carrington, which will be added to a book of condolence that has been opened at Old Trafford.

More than a thousand fans signed the book on Sunday with a further 12,500 from 140 countries around the world contributing to a digital book of condolence.

Charlton died peacefully in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving United and the wider football community in mourning.

United and England legend Charlton passed away on Saturday morning aged 86 

The much-loved former United star, one of the greatest players of all time, had been diagnosed with dementia three years ago. 

Club captain Bruno Fernandes carried a wreath onto the pitch at Bramall Lane ahead of United’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday night.

Both sets of players observed a minute’s applause for the World Cup winner.
