While Pep Guardiola has maintained that Manchester City will not attempt to sign a striker in the January transfer window, that position could quickly change. The Premier League leaders’ recruitment team will no doubt be gathering a shortlist of potential targets for the position, with Ferran Torres having been allowed to join Barcelona.

One man who could have dropped out of contention to move to the Etihad Stadium though is Harry Kane.

The England captain was City’s top target in the summer, but they failed to agree a deal with Tottenham.

And former Spurs striker Darren Bent has now claimed that Kane could now in fact stay at Spurs by signing a new contract.

“I heard – and I have to stress it was a rumour – but it’s that he’s potentially going to stay and sign a new contract there. And you start thinking, ‘Well, what are Manchester City gonna do now?’” he told talkSPORT.

Here, Daily Express Sport has attempted to answer Bent’s question, by looking at four potential striker targets for City…

Erling Haaland

The man who will be at the top of every big club’s shortlist over the coming transfer windows will be Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian has a remarkable scoring record for Borussia Dortmund and at just 21-years-old, there is surely much more to come from him.

Haaland is more likely to move on in the summer rather than January, but City have long held an interest in one of the best strikers in Europe.

Dusan Vlahovic

Dusan Vlahovic has burst onto the scene in the last two seasons, scoring 39 goals in all competitions for Fiorentina in that time.

But La Viola have been unable to agree a new contract with the Serbian star and he is set to leave the Serie A side.

His high wage demands have appeared to price Arsenal and Spurs out of a move, but City would have no trouble funding them.

Patrik Schick

25-year-old striker Patrik Schick gained everybody’s attention by scoring from more than 50 yards against Scotland at Euro 2020.

He has built on that for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 16 goals in just 13 Bundesliga appearances this season.

A host of Premier League clubs, including City, are understood to be eyeing a move for the Czech international, though Leverkusen are unlikely to sell until the summer.

Robert Lewandowski

The old statesman of Bayern Munich Robert Lewandowski enjoyed great success under Guardiola during the Spaniard’s time in charge of the Bundesliga giants.

Lewandowski is still at the top of his game, having scored 30 goals already this season, and City were reported to have explored a move for the Pole in the summer.

With his contract expiring in 2023, City could attempt another approach for him, with the lure of linking back up with Guardiola.
