Tyrell Malacia had Manchester United fans thinking they were watching "Phil Jones again" after he took the "worst corners ever".

The Dutch full-back has been criticised by United supporters on social media for his poor set piece deliveries during their Carabao Cup quarter-final win against Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night. Malacia failed to impress with his corner kicks during the first half as he attempted to pick out his team-mates in the box from both sides of the pitch at Old Trafford.

His below par corners had some fans comparing him to centre-back Jones, who was infamously placed on corner duty back in 2015.

Manager Erik ten Hag also seemed unimpressed by Malacia, who joined the club from Feyenoord in the summer, as he was seen scribbling in his notepad after the 23-year-old's second corner attempt.

As for the fans, one tweeted: “Malacia just took the worst corner I have ever seen in my life.” Another wrote: “Malacia should stop taking those corners. He’s awful!”

A third commented: “Malacia with the two worst corners I’ve ever seen a professional footballer take… 1 off either side too.” One more simply said: “Don’t let Malacia take corners again.”

Another supporter also added: “Not sure Malacia will want to see what Ten Hag wrote on his little pad after those two corners.”

Meanwhile, a further United fan joked: “I hope the note Ten Hag took there was ‘Malacia is never getting close to a corner again’.”

Others shared images of Jones shaping up to take a corner during a trip to Queens Park Rangers back in January 2015. Jones was bizarrely put on set-piece duty for the match, despite playing at centre-back for the duration of the 2-0 win.

Despite Malacia's terrible corners, United were able to see off League One Charlton to seal a place in Wednesday night's semi-final draw.

Antony's first half goal was followed by a stoppage time brace from Marcus Rashford as the Red Devils progressed with a 3-0 victory. Newcastle United are also through to the last four after beating Leicester City 2-0 in an all Premier League clash at St. James' Park.
