Lukaku ‘surprised’ by fall out from interview – despite being told not to do it
Romelu Lukaku has apparently been completely taken aback by the furious reaction to his recent bombshell interview on Italian TV.
On Thursday, footage emerged of the Belgian criticising Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and talking about being unhappy at Stamford Bridge during a sit-down interview with Sky Sports Italia a few weeks ago.
The intention of the interview was to send a message to disgruntled Inter Milan supporters, but all it did was upset his new employers and ended up costing him a place in the side for Chelsea's clash with Liverpool at the weekend.
Tuchel and Lukaku are understood to have met at the club's training ground today to discuss the matter, with the £97.5million man's future in west London hanging in the balance.
Chelsea fans chanted Tuchel's name throughout Sunday's 2-2 draw with Liverpool in a strong indication that their backing is with the manager.
But despite the overwhelming negative response to his comments, Lukaku was surprised by the fallout.
According to transfer insider Dean Jones, the 28-year-old didn't expect the situation to get so ugly, despite being warned not to do the interview by his advisors.
"Lukaku intention wasn’t to start a push for a move away from Chelsea – am told he’s a bit surprised how brutal the fall out has been from the interview," Jones tweeted.

"He was advised not to do it for this very reason though."
After the Liverpool match, Tuchel insisted that the door was still open for Lukaku and insisted that while he didn't appreciate the comments, he didn't feel personally attacjed.
"He is our player, there is always a way back, we will clear this behind closed doors and once we have made a decision and Romelu knows, you will maybe know also," Tuchel said.
