Luis Diaz parents kidnap investigators arrest men on suspicion of involvement

Four men allegedly involved in the kidnap of Luis Diaz’s dad have been arrested.

Colombian police said they snared them with the help of British authorities. The four suspects are members of a criminal group called Los Primos – English for The Cousins.

Local reports say they work for the left-wing ELN and are thought to have handed Luis Manuel Diaz over to the insurgent group after abducting the 58-year-old on October 28. The ELN claimed responsibility for the kidnapping late last week.

Earlier this week, Diaz's father spoke for the first time publicly since he was freed from captivity. Speaking to local press, he revealed his son had told him "to keep going because things don't end here and to have a lot of strength to recover from everything that has happened".

He added: "There was no offer of resources [money]. There was no need, everything was done legally, thank God. They did not request any resources, but that did not happen."
