Lucas Digne ‘could quickly follow Trippier to Newcastle’ as Eddie Howe acts fast

Newcastle United are hoping to add Lucas Digne to their ranks as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his squad in January.

The Toon Army have reportedly agreed a £12million plus add-ons deal with Atletico Madrid to bring wing-back Kieran Trippier back to the Premier League.

And Digne could be set to quickly follow Trippier to the North East.

The Frenchman has reportedly fallen out of favour with Rafa Benitez, and Everton have already brought in Ukrainian Vitaliy Mykolenko as a replacement.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are hoping to move quickly to make the deal happen in the coming weeks.

"We are taking it one transfer at a time," a source at Newcastle told The Telegraph.

"The market is a difficult one for us, clubs are quoting a lot of money for the players we want and some are simply not for sale.

"But we are working through things and more will follow after Tripper.

"We are close on a few things, but this is football and you never know what is going to happen until they are actually signed."

Interest has also arisen from Italy for the 28-year-old's services; Napoli and Inter Milan have registered interest in Digne.

The Magpies are also rumoured to be interested in Diego Carlos as Howe looks to secure his backline.
