Liverpool think ‘game changer’ Gravenberch can be Klopp’s own Bellingham

Klopp praises Nunez after Liverpool defeat Toulouse

Ryan Gravenberch was the best player on the pitch during Liverpool’s 5-1 Europa League thrashing of Toulouse on Thursday night. The Dutchman oozed class as he ran the show in the centre of the park, drawing comparisons to that of Jude Bellingham.

When Jurgen Klopp went about overhauling his midfield in the summer Bellingham was the first name on his shortlist. However, the Englishman snubbed the opportunity to return to his home country for a £114million move to Real Madrid.

Instead, Klopp snapped up Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Watru Endo to replace the outgoing Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and James Milner. But the German still required a complete midfielder that could fill the void intended for Bellingham.

And for £80m less he picked up Gravenberch from Bayern Munich on deadline day. The 21-year-old has shown signs of promise since making the move to Anfield but the Toulouse game served as a showcase of the player he could become for the Reds over the next few years.

The 23/24 home shirt for Liverpool pays homage to the past of the club, as well as collaborator Nike, with a strong 1970s influence. The iconic red, capped with bold white cuffs and collar really does invoke that classic Liverpool FC style while adding a cool retro touch
