Liverpool have suffered a transfer blow, with reports suggesting that RB Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi has agreed to join Borussia Dortmund. The Reds are thought to be keen to land the wonderkid after his impressive displays in Austria.

Adeyemi is viewed as one of the most talented youngsters in Europe and has already won three caps for Germany.

He scored his first international goal in September as he came off the bench in his country’s 6-0 victory over Armenia.

The player has been in outstanding form this season and has already racked up 15 goals in 27 games.

He notched a brace against Lille in the Champions League in September and got his name on the scoresheet against Wolfsburg in October to help Salzburg qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

The Red Bull team finished second in Group G after winning three of their six games.

Liverpool have been tipped to make a move for the 19-year-old in January but, according to Bild, Adeyemi will instead opt for a move to Germany with Dortmund.

Jurgen Klopp’s side had an incredibly quiet summer transfer window, with centre-back Ibrahima Konate the only player to arrive at Anfield.

And the 54-year-old boss could be keen to bolster his ranks in the new year as his team look to launch an assault on the Premier League title.

The Reds are currently second in the table, just one point behind leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool won the Premier League in 2020 but haven’t won a trophy since and Klopp may feel the time is right to refresh his side.

The Merseyside club are set to lose Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita for a spell in January when they fly off to the African Cup of Nations.

And Adeyemi could have been the perfect player to come in and help the Reds stay in the title race.

The teenager has already spoken about his desire to play for one of the European big boys.

“In recent years, many young players have matured at Salzburg and then moved to the best clubs in the world,” Adeyemi said recently.

“I think of Erling Haaland, but also of Sadio Mane and Naby Keita of Liverpool.

“Obviously, I also have this goal. I would like the next stage of my career to be at a top club.”

Adeyemi has played 77 times for RB Salzburg, scoring 25 goals and assisting 18 others.

And he previously racked-up 15 goals in 35 games during an 18-month loan spell with Austrian second division side FC Liefering after joining them three-and-a-half years ago.
