Coutinho sent warning

Philippe Coutinho has been urged to avoid a sensational return to Liverpool by Rivaldo, because proving himself at Barcelona would be a better reflection of his character and quality.

“If the chance comes, Coutinho really needs to step up and show the great player he is, just like he did in England with Liverpool and has done with the Brazilian national team for which he is still an important player,” Rivaldo told Betfair.

“I believe in his qualities and think much will depend on his will and mental strength. He must prove that others were wrong to write him off and that he can still make the difference for any team.

“Playing for Barcelona is a unique chance for a player and perhaps Coutinho’s experience in the Bundesliga has made him wake up and see that Barca could be the right place for him.

“Of course, it might not turn out to be the case and he could join a Premier League club. Barca might prefer to get back some of his investment in the player.

“I think Coutinho should fight to stay at Barca and try to convince the club of his qualities. That would be a real demonstration of his personality.”

Surprise Klopp replacement candidate

Pep Ljinders has emerged as a surprise candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp.

The German’s contract is due to expire in 2024 and the Anfield hierarchy are already beginning to consider his possible successor.

Julian Nagelsmann and Steven Gerrard are the obvious picked, but Ljinders is also in the frame according to The Athletic.

He is very highly regarded by the board and he is immensely respected by the players and supporters.

His name would certainly be part of discussions.

Neville mocks Carragher over title

Gary Neville has admitted that Liverpool deserve the chance to win the Premier League title, but admitted there will always be a blotch on their record because of the way the season has panned out.

Poking fun at Sky colleague Jamie Carragher, the Manchester United legend said on The Debate: “He’s a little bit twitchy over the last few days on our messages.

“I say give Liverpool the league and then I keep sending the little asterisk sign, a little note next to it, ‘Liverpool won the league but…’.

“It would be an absolute doomsday scenario for football, at the end of the day football doesn’t matter at this moment in time, but it would have to be a doomsday scenario for football not to finish the existing fixtures for this season.

“I don’t see how essentially you can shift on with next season without essentially finishing those fixtures.”

Liverpool enter £46m transfer race

Liverpool are in the hunt for Eduardo Camavinga, as the race for the 17-year-old sensation hots up.

According to SPORT the European champions, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Tottenham are all interested in the Rennes midfielder.

The Ligue 1 club are demanding £46m though and are refusing to budge on that figure.

Camavinga is a midfielder with eye-catching dribbling ability and he has already shown he is capable of playing at the highest level after tormenting Paris Saint-Germain.
