Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Jurgen Klopp needs to add another midfielder in the summer transfer window.
The Merseysiders have enjoyed an exceptional campaign which has seen them compete on Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, and League Cup fronts. An unprecedented Quadruple could still be on the cards for Klopp’s relentless Reds, after their 2-0 home victory against Villarreal saw them take a huge step towards a third Champions League final under the former Borussia Dortmund manager.
Very little has divided Manchester City and Liverpool, but Pep Guardiola’s side continue to hold a slender one-point advantage over the Reds. But despite the possibility of an unprecedented campaign remaining very much alive, Carragher believes there is still room to improve for the Reds.
“In the summer, I think the one position would be the midfield for me,” Carragher said to the ‘It's a Funny Old Life’ podcast. “If you look at our first choice midfield right now, you have Henderson, Fabinho, and Thiago, who are all around 30.
“Naby Keita did really well against Manchester City, but you never fully trust him injury wise. The other three are all that age, Milner is obviously a lot older now, I think Oxlade-Chamberlain will move on, and then you have Curtis Jones there
“I think one more, who is around 23 or 24, to go in there is probably something that we need.” Milner’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the current campaign, while Chamberlain will enter the final 12 months of his contract in July.

The former Arsenal ace’s future remains in doubt as he has only started nine Premier League matches for the Merseysiders. He has only been deployed in the starting eleven on four occasions in 2022, despite the Reds competing on all fronts this season.
However, Liverpool could very well heed Carragher’s advice as they have been linked with a move for Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham. The precocious 18-year-old has taken centre stage with his incredibly mature performances for Marco Rose’s side.
Reports from Mirror Sport last December also claimed Liverpool were ‘pushing ahead’ with a possible move for the former Birmingham City midfielder. Bellingham, who already has 12 international caps for England, is believed to be valued around the £90million mark by the Bundesliga giants.
