Lionel Messi ‘takes aim’ at Pochettino’s tactics as stars think he’s ‘too soft’

Lionel Messi is having major doubts about Paris Saint Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino and thinks the Argentine is too soft, according to reports.

Despite being 11 points clear at the top of Ligue 1, all is not well at PSG and it's understood there might be dissension within the ranks.

Pochettino has struggled to impress at the Parc des Princes and Messi is apparently unhappy with his manager's tactics.

The 34-year-old, who has scored just one league goal since joining the club in August, thinks Pochettino's gameplan is "too restrictive" and doesn't get the best out of – what should be – a lethal front-three of himself, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

According to L'Equipe, Messi's camp are concerned that Pochettino is a soft touch in the dressing room and many of the players have lost respect for him because of it.

PSG are yet to properly 'click' this season and after bringing in a number of high-profile stars over the summer including Messi, Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Achraf Hakimi, pressure is mounting on the former Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Despite only arriving in Paris 11 months ago, Pochettino has been linked with moves back to the Premier League, firstly to Spurs in the summer and more recently to Manchester United following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last month.

He remains the favourite to take over at Old Trafford when interim boss Ralf Rangnick's contract ends at the end of the season, though United will likely have to pay PSG a large settlement package in order to land their man.

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers and Ajax manager Erik ten Hag are backup options if a deal for Pochettino fails to materialise.

Messi meanwhile is believed to have told close pal Luis Suarez that he's "suffering" at PSG.

The newly-crowned Ballon d'Or winner has struggled to adapt to life on and off the field in Paris, and is already eyeing up a return to Barcelona.
