Lewis Hamilton drops surprise Mercedes F1 quit fear and says ‘who knows’
Lewis Hamilton has sparked fears he could quit Mercedes when his contract expires in 2025.
Hamilton has been unable to hit his lofty expectations in recent seasons, but he still penned his future to Mercedes – recently signing with the team for a further two seasons.
However, the F1 legend said he is already thinking about his next deal: "In terms of long-term, I'm thinking about my next contract – what that will look like, how long that will be. I plan to be here for a while.
"But it could change.

"I could come back next year and be like 'damn it'. Who knows? You never know where you are going to be in life but right now I'm very focused on staying positive every day. I know that's not easy for anyone."
The 38-year-old's comments come after F1 legend Sir Jackie Stewart said Hamilton has 'serious problems' at Mercedes – and he'll never win a record-breaking eight-title Drivers World Championship with the team.

Stewart said: "First of all, Lewis is one of the best to ever drive in Formula One. But the truth is that in the last decade, he competed with Mercedes for a team that was virtually out of competition.
"During this time, Lewis only had one real competitor – his respective teammate…Because of that – and because the car is no longer quite as powerful – he has serious problems.
"That [eighth title] also depends on Mercedes. It's not impossible, but I still don't think he'll be able to do it."
