Lampard has Jorginho warning for Chelsea’s Billy Gilmour after Everton display

Chelsea starlet Billy Gilmour followed up his brilliant performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup with another man of the match showing vs Everton.

But Frank Lampard has stated that he has not overtaken Jorginho yet in terms of first-choice midfielder but admits it is a nice problem to have.

The Italy international was rested against Liverpool in the FA Cup in an encounter that saw the Blues prevail 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Gilmour was the best player on the pitch despite being just 18 and coming up against seasoned pros in Fabinho, Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk .

With Mateo Kovacic, N'Golo Kante and Jorginho unavailable for the Premier League clash against Everton , the teenager was given another start.

And the Scotsman caught the eye once more as Chelsea thrashed Carlo Ancelotti's men 4-0.

It has led to some calls for the youngster to be a mainstay in the starting XI.

But Lampard has moved to keep the midfielder grounded though admitting that he and Jorginho have the same attributes.

He said: “He’s receiving the ball in difficult areas on the pitch.

"If you don’t move it quickly, firstly you don’t get the rhythm in our play and it breaks down from, and secondly if you give it away in those areas it is dangerous.

"I was going to see a rude word there but you need … confidence to do that. Jorginho has it and Billy has it.

"One of the most pleasing thing with Billy today was he showed those balls in the first half.

"But when he stepped up and played higher up in the pitch second half he instantly took it on board, arriving in the box and playing balls higher up the pitch.

"He showed he can do both, which is a great thing for me when I’m thinking about how the midfield looks at times.”

Chelsea's win puts them three points ahead of Manchester United , who beat Manchester City in the later kick-off on Sunday.

The west London outfit are next in action against Aston Villa before facing Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League encounter.
