Klopp told Liverpool’s ‘luck’ will run out as title dismissed after Man Utd draw
‘They came here not to lose’ | Jurgen Klopp reviews Liverpool’s draw with Man Utd
Ex-Liverpool star Jamie Carragher does not believe that his former side has what it takes to win the Premier League this season. The Reds were held to a 0-0 draw against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon in a performance that left plenty to be desired.
Liverpool have made a strong start to the season, winning 11 of their opening 17 matches and prompting conversations about whether Jurgen Klopp has a squad capable of challenging Manchester City and Arsenal for the title.
The Reds have ridden their luck over recent weeks though, with late goals against Crystal Palace, Fulham and Sheffield United proving decisive. However, Klopp’s side were not able to break the deadlock against the out-of-form Red Devils backline, dominating possession but failing to craft any clear-cut openings.
The display against Erik ten Hag’s side highlighted the weaknesses in Liverpool’s team, with Carragher going on to reveal that he does not believe his former club are capable of pushing for the title as a result.

He told Sky Sports: “I think it’s like Liverpool are playing a season ahead of schedule, ahead of where they should be. How good is this Liverpool team? I think the feeling was that they wanted to make it back into the Champions League for this season and then get back up there, but I think you can even speak to Arsenal supporters and wonder about their own team.
“They have that goalkeeping situation over there so it feels like there are questions around the top two right now. I don’t think Liverpool will win the league, not this year. I think they’ve had good luck so far, certainly had bad luck with the Tottenham game but they’ve also ridden on some lucky results so far. I’m not sure they can continue to do that.”

Liverpool will be hoping that they can improve their chances of pushing for the title during the January transfer window, with investment at both ends of the pitch anticipated. The Merseyside outfit are keen to sign at least one versatile defender to provide depth across their backline, with Joel Matip ruled out with a long-term injury.
The Reds also keen to bring in another forward who can be deployed on the right wing when Mohamed Salah is rotated out of the starting eleven. Borussia Dortmund star Donyell Malen is among the players that Klopp is said to have shortlisted for the role, though United are also in the frame to secure the signature of the Netherlands international.
