Jurgen Klopp reacts to Luis Diaz’s goal as they live in hope for kidnapped dad

Jurgen Klopp has called Luis Diaz' Liverpool heroics 'important and emotional' while calling for the release of his father.

The Liverpool boss spoke from the heart having embraced his 26-year-old forward after he came off the bench to secure a late point, hugging him after the full time whistle as the crowd applauded.

Luis Manuel Diaz remains kidnapped eight days after he was abducted at gunpoint alongside wife Cilenis Marulanda who was later freed by police. The rebel National Liberation Army (ELN) group have since pledged to release him, without doing so.

Klopp said on Sky Sports about Diaz: "A wonderful moment but it doesn't change the situation. Most important thing is that his father gets released. It is wonderful he wanted to be here. That's it, for us a super important goal and for him very important and emotional, but that's it."

When asked if he felt Diaz could play an awesome part, Klopp added: "He can always do that. When he is on the pitch he is always involved in special things.

"We knew he would be a threat, we didn't know how long he would play because he only had a few sessions with the team but that is not the most important part today. He scored the goal but we need to see some improvement in Colombia."

Diaz decided that he wanted to return to Liverpool action during the week after sitting out of first-team proceedings on emotional leave. After the message on the shirt of the player, his mother had a message of her own.
