Jamie O’Hara has branded Manchester United’s board a ‘shambles’ for not firing ‘bang average’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The former Tottenham midfielder launched a scathing attack on the Norwegian manager after United’s 4-2 defeat to Leicester City.

Solskjaer is under growing scrutiny as Red Devils boss after overseeing a fourth defeat in seven games.

And the manner of the defeat at the King Power was particularly damning as Solskjaer’s side crumbled after Marcus Rashford drew the game level at 2-2.

United have only won half of their eight Premier League games this term, despite a favourable start to the season.

Solskjaer was backed in the summer with the marquee signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, plus the sensational return of Cristiano Ronaldo.

But the additions have not coincided with an improvement in performances or results and O’Hara believes United are already out of the title race.

“I’ve been saying this for weeks, months – Manchester United are a shambles keeping hold of the manager,” he told TalkSport.

“They’ve got a world-class squad of players with a basic manager who wouldn’t even get another job in the Premier League. I can’t believe they’re not being ruthless enough to say, ‘right, now’s the time to do it’.

“They’ve kept hanging on and hanging on. This season, he [Solskjaer] even said no more excuses with the squad of players they’ve got. Everyone said that.

“And straight away they’re out of the title race, they’re not going to win the title this season, so they’ve wasted another season.”

Solskjaer is entering a defining period as United boss but O’Hara thinks people have been more forgiving to the Norwegian than former managers Jose Mourinho and Louis Van Gaal.

“Any other manager, if it was Mourinho or Van Gaal, if anyone else was going on this run they’d be slaughtered,” O’Hara added in a heated rant.

“For some reason, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems to get a free ride.

“They have got a world class group of players but a bang average manager who’s out of his depth.”

Criticism continues to be levelled at Solskjaer for not getting the best out of a squad that is now bursting with quality.

Ronaldo, Sancho, Mason Greenwood, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes all lined up against Leicester but Solskjaer has struggled to find a balance in his side.

“We weren’t good enough with second balls and 50-50s – the things that give you the right to win a game of football,” Solskjaer admitted after the defeat.

“We couldn’t get them 50-50s turning our way. It says everything when your best player is the goalie, David de Gea, and still we conceded four goals.”

United host Atalanta on Wednesday in the Champions League group stages and Solskjaer will demand a response before Sunday’s crunch match against Liverpool.
