Jamie Carragher was unable to make CBS’s Champions League show in Miami Tuesday afternoon but the Liverpool legend didn’t let his co-pundits forget about him that easily.

CBS’s soccer team are in Miami for the next two days with a live audience, swapping their London studio for the sunshine of South Florida.

But Carragher was late to the live show after fulfilling his Sky Sports duties for Monday Night Football’s coverage of Fulham’s dramatic 3-2 win over Wolves back in London.

The defender was forced to jet across the Atlantic to South Florida Tuesday to make it for CBS’s coverage of Wednesday’s Champions League games.

Instead, USMNT legend Clint Dempsey filled Carragher’s spot on the usual panel of Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and host Kate Abdo for the first games of Week 5 of the group stage on Tuesday.

But Carragher found time to jokingly send a warning to Dempsey to not get too comfortable in his seat.

Filming himself on the plane, Carragher said: ‘I’m on my way, Clint. You’re going back on the bench, boy.’

The former Tottenham and Fulham forward saw the funny side as he joked: ‘Damn, that’s messed up. Cut me deep.’

The entire panel fell into a fit of laughter, while Carragher’s usual partner-in-crime, Richards, booed his message. ‘Clint’s done a fabulous job, man,’ he added in a phony American accent.

However, Carragher made it in time for halftime with the analyst seemingly having rushed straight from the airport to CBS’s makeshift, marina-side studio.

He burst on to the panel with a shout of: ‘The show starts now. This is the real show.’

Dempsey fairly evacuated his seat for Carragher to slip in but Abdo assured the American they would find him an extra seat but he jokingly stormed off stage.

Along with the regular crew of Henry, Richards, Carragher and Abdo, Dempsey also joined Peter Schmeichel and Charlie Davis as guest analysts on the ‘Destination Miami’ show. Meanwhile, sideline reporters, American and former Leeds coach Jesse Marsch and Guillem Balague, were in Milan.

Last season the show made the venture to broadcast live from Brooklyn, New York, and ‘Destination Miami’ is seemingly continuing the tradition.

Miami became the focus of the soccer world this summer when Lionel Messi made the move to MLS to join David Beckham’s Inter Miami, leading the Herons to their first piece of silverware in the inaugural Leagues Cup.
