The United captain has fallen down the pecking order this season and is arguably fifth choice centre-back behind Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof.

Maguire started United’s first two games of the season but was dropped following defeats to Brighton and Brentford.

He’s started just two Premier League matches since and Inter Milan made an approach to sign him earlier this week.

United rebuffed their interest and Maguire, in any case, remains keen to stay at Old Trafford this month.

The Manchester Evening News say Maguire is determined to win a trophy with United, particularly as he does not want to leave the club having failed to do so as captain.

Maguire will reconsider his future at the end of the season but for now he is determined to fight for his place.

Erik ten Hag wants to keep Maguire but he’ll listen to offers for him in the summer, particularly if it means bolstering his budget.
