Goalkeeper scores ‘all-time howler’ own goal in derby – but fans blame defender

Goalkeepers, eh? Who would want to be one?

Well, that's most likely what Hamburg goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes was thinking when he somehow shanked what appeared to be a routine clearance into the top corner of his own net. In the Hamburg Derby pitting Hamburger SV against St Pauli, he attempted to clear a bobbling pass from his team-mate Guilherme Ramos and somehow managed to skew it into his own goal to give St Pauli the lead.

If anything, it was almost impressive how he managed to do that as he was practically on his own goal line when he tried to make the clearance. While there was nowhere to hide for the goalkeeper, the football world does not believe he was the only one at fault.

One fan wrote: "I mean the defender played an atrocious pass back. Ball hits a bobble just before he boots it. More blame on the defender than the keeper for this."

A second added: "Horrible pass from the defender.. goalkeeper was getting closed down and had to clear it one time then the ball clearly bounced before he kicked it."

A third also said: " The defender's pass needs to be talked about too." A fourth said: "To be fair, if you look closely, the ground was uneven causing the ball to bounce which affected his clearance attempt. Plus the defender who passed to him is an idiot, very careless implicating pass."

Of course, there was vociferous debate between football fans arguing who should have taken more responsibility. However, other supporters wanted to admire the ironic beauty of the embarrassing goal.

One particularly entertained fan said: "I know global football generally throws up a mad own goal at least once a week but I think this might be the s***est of all time. A real team effort."

Another simply wrote: "every football fan needs to see this." Luckily for the keeper, Hamburg managed to claw their way back into the contest and secure a 2-2 draw.
