Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to have lost the dressing room at Old Trafford with both Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes not happy, according to reports, and the Glazers may soon have a decision to make. Solskjaer earned praise during his early days in the dugout at Old Trafford, helping turn things around and making the club competitive at the top of the table.

But this summer’s acquisitions of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Ronaldo brought added pressure on Solskjaer to close the gap even further.

They enjoyed a strong start to the campaign as well with strong victories over Leeds and Newcastle, winning four of their opening five league games.

There were some warning signs along the way though with abject performances soon being punished.

Since the end of September, United have been on a downward trajectory and last month’s 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool heaped the pressure on Solskjaer.

Noise coming out of the club suggested United officials were keen to give him more time after Solskjaer was given a new contract during the summer.

A convincing 3-0 win at Tottenham followed, arguably their best performance of the season to give them some momentum heading into the Manchester derby a week later.

But they reverted back to their old ways as United were utterly outclassed by Pep Guardiola’s side at Old Trafford.

And there are some alarming reports coming out of the club about the players’ attitude towards Solskjaer.

According to the Daily Mail, Fernandes is one of several senior players who feel ‘they are not getting enough direction from Solskjaer’.

Ronaldo is also said to be ‘alarmed’ at how far United’s standards have dropped off since he last played for the club.

There were suggestions last month that Solskjaer would be given until the international break to try and turn things around.

But the international break may present an opportunity for the Glazers to head in a different direction in revitalising the dressing room.

A number of managers are being linked with the job, with Brendan Rodgers emerging as a top target.

The Northern Irishman has impressed at Leicester, but United may need a stronger character to step in to the role and earn the respect of the dressing room straight away.

Zinedine Zidane remains the ideal candidate to take over at United in their moment of crisis.

Multiple reports have indicated that Zidane has no interest in the Red Devils job, but that only means the Glazers need to push with everything they have.

At Real Madrid, Zidane got the best out of his superstars from the likes of Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema.

United appear broken at the moment with players seemingly not on the same wavelength under Solskjaer.

The need for change looks clear and Zidane is arguably the best choice to come in and turn things around.
