Garnacho’s overhead kick sounds even better with Peter Drury’s commentary
Peter Drury delivered masterful commentary after Alejandro Garnacho scored the goal of the season so far in Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday.
The home crowd were stunned just three minutes into the Premier League fixture as Diogo Dalot’s crossed ball found 19-year-old Garnacho, who rose acrobatically to meet it with a bicycle-kick from range.
The Argentine youngster’s audacious effort flew in past Jordan Pickford – and he quickly ran off to fittingly perform his idol Cristiano Ronaldo’s trademark celebration. UK viewers listened as Rob Hawthorne and Gary Neville went wild – but fans have now got their hands on audio from NBC-owned USA Today, for whom Drury was commentating on the match.

And fan-favourite Drury’s commentary – known for its spine-tingling metaphors and dramatic language – certainly didn’t disappoint. “Garnacho, oh wow! Oh wow!” he yelled.
“That is one of the great goals. Special beyond special. How has he plucked that one out? VAR. Don't you dare disallow this!”
One Twitter user replied: “This goal is incomplete without Peter Drury's commentary,” while another tweeted: “Every word here is golden.”

Others were in agreement, tweeting: “Always delivers with words,” and: “Best Commentator.”
Drury wasn’t the only commentator left stunned by Garnacho’s strike. Awe-stricken United legend Gary Neville said: “He can’t believe it, Garnacho. I can’t believe it.
"I don’t think I’ve ever been in a stadium to see an overhead kick as good as that – and I was there for Rooney’s in the Manchester derby. That was unbelievable. A magical, magical goal.”
United went on to score two more, courtesy of Marcus Rashford from the penalty spot and Anthony Martial. The Red Devils are now sixth in the league, four points off fourth-placed Aston Villa.
