‘Frustrated’ Man Utd players believe Ronaldo ‘will push for January transfer’

Several Manchester United first-team stars are bracing themselves for another Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga, believing the Portuguese legend will push for another Old Trafford exit in January.

Ronaldo, 37, shocked the Red Devils' hierarchy at the start of the summer window by handing in a transfer request, however, a move failed to materialise. A plethora of Europe's big-hitters, including the likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Napoli and Atletico Madrid, all rejected the chance to sign the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

The former Real Madrid ace has also started just two matches for Erik ten Hag – the 4-0 humbling at Brighton and a 1-0 loss to Real Sociedad in the Europa League – and is now seriously contemplating his future at the club.

A source told the Sun: "All the players loved it when Ronaldo came back to United last season but they are frustrated he missed pre-season.

"The manager put a lot of work into giving the squad detailed information about what he wanted them to do and how he wanted them to play."

They added: "He is going to have to get used to scoring a lot less goals because he is only being introduced towards the end of games when Ten Hag has already made changes which make United less attacking."

Opting to start a misfiring Marcus Rashford at the top end of the pitch, Ten Hag's need for a lightning-fast front three means Ronaldo has been forced to watch from the sidelines during United's recent upturn in form.

Having picked up maximum points from their last four top-flight fixtures, Portugal's record goalscorer is unlikely to force his way back into the starting XI anytime soon.

Already in the final 12 months of his original two-year deal – though United do possess an option to trigger a further year – Ronaldo could now be ready to push for a January exit.
