Manchester United never really had to get out of third gear during their Carabao Cup clash with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.
Erik ten Hag named a rotated side as he looked to rest players for the Premier League – where they will play the same opponent over the weekend. However, the second-string side showed off their colours, and some might have given Ten Hag a selection headache.
And as United dumped Crystal Palace out of the Carabao Cup 3-0, Daily Star Sport is having a look at some of the players who might have caught the eye of the Dutchman.
Mason Mount back in the starters?
Mason Mount hasn't had the dream start to life at the Red Devils, and the Carabao Cup provided Mount with another chance to impress Ten Hag. Mount, to his credit, was lively on Tuesday evening.
And he was involved in United's second, whipping the ball in from a corner to an unmarked Casemiro – who nodded home. Mount was taken off at the break, but his performance was enough to convince United fans he should start at the weekend.
One fan joked: "Mount bowing out with that beautiful assist, we’ll be back this weekend!"

Sofyan Amrabat could change the season
Sky Sports is bringing you 500 live football games to watch, as well access to Cricket, Golf, F1, Boxing, NFL, NBA and more across eight dedicated channels. Sky Sports is the only way to watch all the action this year.
£22 a month
Sofyan Amrabat was one of the Red Devils' top targets over the summer, but they were not able to land their man until the end of the window – leaving him with minimal match fitness and still learning Ten Hag's ways.
While he was playing a deeper role than usual, Amrabat – in the first half – completed 65 passes against Crystal Palace. While Scott McTominay, who has been around the first team in the Premier League, has completed 49 all season.
Amrabat will need time to buy into Ten Hag's football – but he could prove invaluable during the later months.
Harry Maguire can offer United a lot
Few footballers divide opinion quite like Harry Maguire, a lot of United fans are keen to see him shown the door – but he could still offer Ten Hag a lot this season.
Maguire has a wealth of experience, and given the right confidence boost, who is to say he can't replicate his international form at Old Trafford. Steve Bruce defended the centre-back ahead of kick-off on Sky Sports: “Harry Maguire is a great player.
"He’d get into many Premier League teams."
Anthony Martial is starting and scoring
Rasmus Hojlund has potential as high as the sky, but giving him help up front could be the key to success for United.
Anthony Martial was named among the starters on Tuesday, and his movement in the box saw him notch United's third of the evening. Marcus Rashford hasn't been himself this season, and some fans noted they looked better going forwards without him.
United face Palace over the weekend again, this time in the Premier League, and confident players could bring a much needed three points to Ten Hag.
