Newcastle look set to complete their first marquee signing of their newfound rich era in the form of Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid – with fans now speculating over the shirt numbers the Bury-born star could wear.
The Magpies were taken over in October, and since then have been linked with a plethora of players to help drag Newcastle out of the relegation zone.
News broke earlier in the week that Newcastle had agreed a fee of around £12million plus add ons for his services.
Having moved to Spain two years ago, the move to St James’ Park will see Trippier return a La Liga champion, a Euro 2020 finalist and a much-improved player.
Express Sport takes a look at certain squad numbers he could take in the northeast.
Number two is a typical one to wear for a right-back.
Trippier donned the number at Burnley, Tottenham and has worn it for England on occasion.
And with Ciaran Clark potentially being replaced after a lacklustre season on Tyneside, that would free up the coveted jersey.
Until this summer, the furthest England had gone in a major tournament since their 1966 World Cup win was the semi-finals at the 2018 World Cup.
Trippier played and was wearing the number 12 shirt when he scored vs Croatia to send the nation into bedlam.
However, with the shirt currently taken by Jamal Lewis, there may need to be some rotation if he is to wear the number that brought him international attention.

Trippier wore number 23 in his time at the Wanda Metropolitano.
He became Diego Simeone’s first-choice right-back, although a more youthful approach is likely to be used following his sale.
And Jacob Murphy could be replaced given Newcastle’s newfound riches, which subsequently may allow Trippier to continue to wear the number.

13 is the lowest possible current shirt number available bar number four.
It would make sense for Trippier to take the lowest one available, with four likely to be used for a blockbuster central midfield or central defence signing.
And with barely any players of authority making their name in the shirt – the most memorable being Callum Wilson last season – Trippier would have the opportunity to change that.
