Manchester United’s famous No11 shirt will soon be vacant after the club decided to axe Mason Greenwood following the conclusion of their internal investigation.

Greenwood still currently remains a United player and the No11 technically belongs to the 21-year-old for now.

But the club will soon have that shirt to fill after it was announced that Greenwood would be leaving Old Trafford, ideally for a new club, in the coming days.

Much like the No7 shirt, United’s No11 is a highly-coveted jersey as well after it was immortalised by the club’s all-time appearance maker Ryan Giggs.

While Giggs became the first United player to permanently wear the No11 following the introduction of the selected squad numbers, only Anthony Martial and Adnan Januzaj have worn it bar Greenwood since, to limited success.

But the number was previously worn by Ballon d’Or and European Cup winners Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best. And here are four current United players who could yet fit the No11 mould.

Who do you think should become Man Utd’s new No11? Let us know in the comments section.

    Antony

Antony joined United for £82million last summer and is yet to convince everyone of his price tag.

The 23-year-old scored eight times in his debut campaign in Manchester but after starting the opening two games of the season, he’s for sure Erik ten Hag’s first name on the team sheet to play on the right wing.

Currently donning the No21, Antony could find himself wearing a number more resembling his core presence.

    Alejandro Garnacho

The Argentine looks to have an enormous future at Old Trafford after an exciting breakthrough campaign saw him register ten goal involvements.

Garnacho was touted to wear United’s number seven earlier in the summer following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, but the number was surprisingly handed to Mason Mount.

But the 19-year-old will certainly be in the frame to swap his current No49 shirt for something more befitting a player who started the opening two games of the season.

    Jadon Sancho

Sancho has flattered to deceive at Old Trafford and a potential departure from the club has also been rumoured such has been the England international’s struggles.

The 23-year-old never seemed in the conversation to take the No7 shirt before it was handed to Mount, and on merit, there are more deserving players.

But swapping the No25 for a more prestigious number could be the kickstart Sancho needs to launch his United career.

    Rasmus Hojlund

Whilst it was previously reported that Hojlund would wear the No17 vacated by Fred, United are yet to confirm the Dane’s squad number.

Hojlund’s current injury, as frustrating for Ten Hag, does coincide with the availability of the No11 shirt, and there are not many better players than the new £72m man to spark excitement by pulling on the famous number for his belated United debut.
