Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has slammed VAR after Joelinton allegedly fouled Gabriel Magalhaes in the build=up to Anthony Gordon’s winner against the Gunners.

Gordon was set up by team-mate Joelinton, however many fans have complained the Brazilian pushed his countryman in the back to win the header, with VAR deciding there was no foul.

As well as the push, there was plenty of controversy surrounding whether Joe Willock kept the ball in field during the build-up, and whether Newcastle were offside too.

Mikel Arteta also raged about VAR after the game, labelling the decision making as ’embarrassing’ and a ‘disgrace’.

Wright joined in with the Gunners boss’ consternation, and took to social media platform X to voice his frustrations.

The Arsenal icon posted an explicit message insisting: ‘Bro. I’m done with people saying this is not a foul, 50 f*****g 50.’

The post was accompanied by a picture seemingly showing Joelinton’s outstretched arms on the back of Gabriel’s head and neck.

Gary Neville agreed with VAR’s decision not to award a foul as he claimed the defender had stooped forward to try and clear the ball rather than be pushed by Joelinton.

Wright clashed with former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher about the decision made by VAR, as Gallagher explained there was not enough conclusive evidence to disallow the goal.

Gallagher insisted: ‘The whole of the ball has to be over the line and you can look at it from that angle and you can’t tell, as Wrighty says, it’s impossible to tell,

‘I think that may be the problem with this because we can’t be sure that part of that ball isn’t hanging over the line. So on that basis there is no evidence to say the ball is out of play. That’s how it is. It’s only penalised if the ball is out of play.

Wright, meanwhile, fumed at Gallagher’s response and exclaimed: ‘Sorry to interrupt, Dermot. But the angles we’re seeing, the ball looks out of play. That’s surely what we should be judging it on. It’s not like we can’t say conclusively.

‘What we can see from the the naked eye, because we haven’t got any other way to prove that the circumference of the ball is breaking the line, then surely we should give that as the ball out of play?’
