A series of mistakes have been noticed from Monday’s hectic initial Champions League draw from eagle-eyed viewers watching the proceedings.
The draw for the Round of 16, which took place in Nyon, Switzerland, saw Arsenal legend Andrey Arshavin draw Manchester United against Villarreal.
However two sides from the same group can’t face each other so that game was put aside and a second name was put out to face the Spaniards – Manchester City.
However, when Atletico Madrid were drawn, it seemed organisers did not place United in the pot of potential opponents.
Reporter Mark Critchley, of the Independent, appeared to be the first to notice that there was no ball from United.
He said on Twitter: “It definitely looks like #mufc’s ball – in the second pot from the right, back row – was not included in the Atletico Madrid draw.”
“For Atletico Madrid, the possibilities are all except Liverpool, who were in the same group and Manchester United," explained host and UEFA chief Giorgio Marchetti.
"Manchester United have already been drawn," Marchetti added.
Following the error, UEFA decided that they would perform the draw all over again.
The games are set to be played in February, across two weeks. There's no away goal rule, this being the first season without it, and the games will be played across two legs.
Owen Hargreaves, speaking on BT Sport: "Atletico play more defensive on the counter, they have some world-class players. Slightly easier for United but still really difficult. Flip of a coin."
Michael Owen, speaking on BT Sport: "It's a slightly worse tie than the original but Liverpool should still be confident about it."I think it's a nice trip for the fans and the players to play in an iconic stadium. Liverpool are still clear favourites. The toys won't be completely out of the pram."
