‘F***ing idiot’ Gascoigne jumped in pool wrapped in bog roll – and nothing else
Paul Gascoigne once wrapped himself in toilet paper and took a plunge into a pool – after he was lectured about conserving energy at the 1990 World Cup.
Gascoigne had travelled to Italia 90 with the rest of the England squad when Stuart Pearce recounted the tale.
Pearce explained that Sir Bobby Robson had told them heat would be a huge factor – and they would have to conserve energy at every opportunity if they hoped to go the distance.
The following day, Pearce remembers being on a sunbed when he heard a commotion, Pearce said: "I look at the diving board, Gascoigne's bouncing up and down; he's gone to the toilet, and he's mummified himself from head to foot!

Pearce continued to explain that Robson held the team back after they had their dinner.
Robson, according to the defender, said: "Gentlemen, there's a f***king idiot amongst us." However, Gascoigne didn't realise who he was talking about – and he was the only player looking around the room to see who it was.
England crashed out in the semi-finals of that World Cup, with Pearce and Chris Waddle missing the decisive penalties against West Germany.
