Fans laugh as Ten Hag says Onana is Prem’s second-best goalie ‘based on stats’
Fans have poked fun at Erik ten Hag after the Manchester United manager described Andre Onana as the Premier League’s second-best goalkeeper.
Onana, 27, produced another horror display during United’s crucial Champions League fixture at Galatasaray. The £47.5million summer signing gifted the Turkish giants two goals, resulting in a 3-3 draw which meant the Red Devils only came away with a point.
It marked just the latest in a string of high-profile gaffes early on in his Red Devils career. But United boss Ten Hag has now defended his keeper by bringing attention to Onana’s impressive stats.

The Dutchman, who previously coached Onana at Ajax, said: "If you analyse it well then you see he is the second-best goalkeeper in the Premier League based on stats, so his expected defending goals is the second best in the Premier League.
"He's doing well. Also he knows that in the Champions League he makes some mistakes, but all over you see the first five months he is doing particularly well.
"You have seen how he reacted to a bad performance like in Munich. At Burnley he was outstanding.

"He is a strong character, he is a personality and he will deal with it."
Ten Hag’s comments refer to Onana preventing 3.67 goals this season – the second most in the Premier League. He is also tied for the most clean sheets in the league this season with five.
Yet fans online were not convinced, as one X user replied: “He’s got to be joking,” while another tweeted: “Laughed so hard!”

Another commented: “His mistakes make this stat unbelievable,” while a fourth pointed out: “Stats don't matter. He singlehandedly eliminated Man Utd from the Champions league.”
Other United supporters added: “He's among the worst based on eyesight,” and: “Based on my eyes he chucks the ball into his own net every other game.”
Onana’s outing left United in desperate need of a win against Bayern Munich. They also need FC Copenhagen and Galatasaray to draw if they are to qualify out of their group.
