Ex-Man Utd star refused to do Soccer AM after Soccerette’s chat-up allegation
Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick has opened up about his “fury” after hearing a Soccerette’s allegation on Soccer AM.
Soccer AM during the early to mid-2010s was the hottest football-related show on TV. Its trademark laddish banter at one stage involved a “Soccerette” segment, where a young female fan sporting a football top would be introduced to cheers, before being asked an array of innuendo-laced questions.
But one occasion saw a Soccerette make a claim abou at-the-time Milton Keynes Dons star Chadwick, now 42, after being asked if she had ever met any professional players. The fan in question alleged Chadwick had attempted to “chat her up” on one occasion in the player’s lounge.
Chadwick, who made his senior debut in 1999 after coming up through Manchester United’s academy, was preparing for a game with MK Dons when he was alerted on his phone about what had occurred.

Speaking on TikTok, he said: “I realised a Soccerette, when asked if she’d ever met a footballer, said that I had tried to chat her up in a player’s lounge after a game.
“This was of course a complete lie. A – because I was happily married and B – I rarely ever went in the player’s lounge as I was always keen to get myself home.”

Chadwick went on to explain he was so infuriated that he refused to take part in Soccer AM’s famous crossbar challenge when they later turned up to MK Dons’ training centre.
He added: “I was so annoyed about this fabrication of the truth that when Soccer AM visited our training ground a couple of weeks later to film the crossbar challenge, I refused to take part out of protest. And it also saved myself looking like a fool trying to hit the bar from the half-way line.”

It appears the Englishman did at one point forgive the show, however. He appeared on it years later in 2021 once the format had changed considerably and the Soccerettes were no more.
Chadwick made 25 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils between 1999 and 2004, before spending time out on loan at Reading and Burnley. Stints at West Ham, Stoke City and Norwich City followed before he enjoyed the best spell of his career in Milton Keynes.
