Ex-ITV host Elton Welsby hammered for comments about ‘birds playing football’
Former ITV presenter Elton Welsby has been slammed by football fans following his comments about Everton's clash with Manchester United in the Women's Super League.
Everton drew 1-1 with their Manchester rivals on Sunday afternoon thanks to a late equaliser from Simone Magill.
However, Welsby tweet after the game caused some backlash: "Just watching the last 15 mins of our birds playing Man Utd tarts.
"It's better than I thought it would be but I still can't get excited watching it.
"They are clearly enjoying themselves and that is all that counts as long as I don't have to watch it."
One fan commented: @WelsbyElton is proof that dinosaurs still walk the earth.
"Richard Keys and Elton Welsby going head to head in worst sporting takes of the week. For all of Keys' relentless guff, think Welsby's nicked it," another added.
A third tweeted: "Thought it was s*** parody account. It turns out it’s just a s***."
"This tweet was deliberately posted to offend. You didn’t have to either watch or tweet about it but decided to anyway," a fourth replied.

Welsby previously came under fire for sexist comments in 2018.
He tweeted: “Football…cricket…the lady commentators are just not good enough.
“It's not sexism… it's about knowledge and above all..delivery.. voice control…someone apart from me, don’t think it, say it.
“Let’s get this straight. Some of you understand. Others don’t have a clue between commentary, punditry, presentation or interviewing."
