Manchester United have suffered another major injury blow after Erik ten Hag revealed that Casemiro could be sidelined until after Christmas due to a hamstring injury.
The Brazil star was expected to be out of action for several weeks after limping out of last week’s Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle at half-time.
But Ten Hag confirmed that Casemiro has joined Lisandro Martinez on the long-term casualty list and may not be in action again until the New Year.
Asked about some of his injured players, which also include Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, Ten Hag said: ‘I have some time schedules, yeah, but it’s always difficult to predict that because they can get setbacks during the rehab period so I’m always holding back on some issue.
‘I expect Casemiro and Martinez are really strong injuries and I don’t expect them back before Christmas. It’s several weeks.’

Ten Hag said that Marcus Rashford is ‘100 per cent ready’ for Wednesday’s Champions League tie against FC Copenhagen at Parken Stadium after missing Saturday’s win at Fulham with a leg injury picked up in training.
Harry Maguire finished the game despite taking an early blow to the head and appearing groggy, but Ten Hag insisted that all the necessary checks had been taken and the England defender is ready to play on Wednesday as well.
‘We did all the protocols during the game, after the game, so he is ready to play,’ said the United boss.
