Eric Dier has fight with Tottenham fan in stands after FA Cup defeat

England international Eric Dier was involved in an altercation with Spurs supporters in the stands of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium minutes after the club were knocked out of the FA Cup by Norwich City on Wednesday night.

The midfielder jumped over the advertising boards and ran up the stairs to confront a group of fans as the Canaries knocked Spurs out in a penalty shootout after the last-16 tie went to penalties.

Dier is clearly seen wrestling with a number of supporters before being restrained by a mixture of the stadium stewards and other fans.

Norwich progressed to the quarter-finals after Tim Krul saved from Gedson Fernandes’ spot kick and fans near to the confrontation allege that it was triggered following a volley of abuse being aimed at the Portuguese, though that is not yet confirmed.

Fans nearby allege the confrontation was triggered following abuse assumed at Gedson, who missed the decisive final penalty.

Dier has come in for fierce criticism from supporters in the last 18 months after initially losing his place under Mauricio Pochettino.

Jose Mourinho’s arrival was seen as a positive for the England ace as the former Manchester United boss had tried to sign him during his time at Old Trafford.

However, his fortunes have barely improved and tonight’s incident highlights the discord between the player and supporters.
