Dier confronts Tottenham fans in stands in heated altercation after FA Cup exit

Eric Dier climbed into the Tottenham stands and confronted home supporters as ugly scenes marred the club's FA Cup clash with Norwich on Wednesday night.

Spurs were knocked out the cup by their Premier League rivals on penalties in north London but it was scenes after the match that were the talking point.

Dier was seen climbing over the advertising board and into the stand where home fans were sat after seemingly taking offence to what was been shouted at the beaten Spurs players.

The England midfielder then confronted several fans and had to be held back by stewards and stunned onlookers.

Video footage appeared to show the fuming Spurs star approaching the fans, with fan shouting": "Oh my god Dier, what the f*** are you doing Dier".

After the game, Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho said Eric Dier "did something we professionals cannot do".

Mourinho said in his post-match press conference: "I think Eric Dier did something we professionals cannot do but he did something that we would all do.

"I think Eric did what we as professionals cannot do but when someone insults you and your family is involved, especially your younger brother.

"This person insulted Eric, the younger brother was not happy with the situation and Eric was not happy. But we as professionals cannot do what he did."

On the prospect of the club taking action against Dier, Mourinho said: "If the club does that I will not agree, but he did wrong."

"I think Eric did what we as professionals cannot do but when someone insults you and your family is involved, especially your younger brother."

It was an unsavoury end to the match which saw Norwich keeper Tim Krul play a starring role.
