De Bruyne names perfect five-a-side team and snubs Ronaldo but picks Chelsea ace

Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has picked Lionel Messi in his dream five-a-side team ahead of his Manchester United rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

De Bruyne has named the players he would choose for an ultimate small-pitch game, but Ronaldo does not make the cut.

The Man City midfielder was chatting to United legend Rio Ferdinand, who is a big fan of Ronaldo.

Ferdinand’spick in the age-old GOAT debatewould go to his former United team-mate, but it seems De Bruyne is not of the same opinion.

Speaking onFerdinand’s FIVE YouTube channel, De Bruyne was asked to select a five-man team which didn’t require a goalkeeper.

The Belgian star had little hesitation in picking his only defender for the dream team, going for Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.

"I think he's up there. He was unbelievable before his injury, obviously he had his ACL,” he said.

"He came back to a real high level. It's very difficult always to say 'he's better than this one…' but he's probably top three in the world alongside Ruben [Dias] and some other players.

“I think he deserves it."

Van Dijk wouldn’t be alone in defending for De Bruyne’s side, however, because he went for Chelsea and France defensive midfielder N’Golo Kante in front of him.

"I need [N'Golo] Kante," he added.

There is plenty of industry in the middle of the pitch, too, with Man City star Bernardo Silva operating alongside Kante.

"In small spaces he's unbelievable. He reminds me a bit of David [Silva],” De Bruyne said.

"He's a wind-up, people hate that about him. He gives you a little bit of everything and with the team that I have he fits in perfectly. His quality this year has been unbelievable.”

Up front, De Bruyne opted not to select Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Ronaldo.

"Messi's going to be there for me," he told Ferdinand. "Neymar is going to be there for me."
