Dayot Upamecano confirms talks with clubs amid Man Utd transfer interest

Dayot Upamecano has confirmed talks with clubs as Manchester United ramp up their efforts to land the defender.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to land his first target of the summer in the form of Donny van de Beek.

The Norweigan has three transfers in mind in the form of a midfielder, a right-winger and a centre-back.

Jadon Sancho is still the club's priority on the wing while Upamecano is wanted in defence.

United improved their backline last summer when Harry Maguire was signed for a world-record fee from Leicester.

But Solskjaer wants another to partner up the England international.

Upamecano has been attracting several sides this summer after a stellar campaign with RB Leipzig.

His performances helped the German outfit reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, the furthest they have got in the competition.

As well as United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Tottenham have been linked with a move.

And the Frenchman has admitted talks have been held over a prospective transfer in the remaining weeks of the window.

"I extended in Leipzig, because I feel good with my team-mates and my coach. I’m good at Leipzig," said Upamecano.

"It’s true that I’m in great demand. I speak with clubs, but I’m in no rush and we’ll see what happens in the future."

It was only in July when the 21-year-old signed a contract extension with RB Leipzig.

The centre-back is now tied down with the Bundesliga outfit until 2023, which rules out a free transfer next summer.

Upamecano would have seen his contract expire in the summer of 2021, alerting the attention of clubs around Europe.

But now Leipzig are entitled to £53m – which is what his release clause stands at.

However, if he was to stay until next summer that number would drop down to £40m.
