Daniel Sturridge instructed Rasmus Hojlund to start sharing more information with his Manchester United team-mates to help him to kick-start a run of goalscoring form.
Hojlund was brought to Old Trafford in the summer to be Erik ten Hag’s figurehead in attack, however, he has struggled to settle into new surroundings and is still searching for a first Premier League goal.
All three of his strikes for United have come in the Champions League, while against English opposition he has struggled to make an impact for Ten Hag’s side.
The 20-year-old endured another difficult afternoon on Saturday as United captain Bruno Fernandes snatched a late victory with a goal in stoppage time against Fulham, but former Chelsea and Liverpool striker, Sturridge, believes Hojlund is a ‘project’ that will work out.
‘It will change, he [Hojlund] has to have conversations with his team-mates letting them know what he likes, he has to have these conversations letting them know “this is what I’m like get the ball here and feed me in”,’ Sturridge told Sky Sports.

‘The manager has his ideas of how he wants his team to play. In the end he is a project and not the perfect striker right now, not the finished article.
‘When he gets these opportunities, he is desperate to show he has the capabilities to score goals at a big club like United.
‘Maybe Hojlund over time will get to a place saying I have to create things for myself and get a shot away, at the moment there’s not a lot there with goals and shots.
‘It doesn’t look good but I don’t think it creates a total picture. It’s very easy to criticise him when we’ve not seen him miss loads of chances,’ he added.
Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, believes the goalscoring determination of Marcus Rashford and Fernandes could be impacting Hojlund and compared the Danish youngster as being in a similar situation to Darwin Nunez last year.

Nunez encountered similar teething problems at Liverpool last season but is now emerging as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
Carragher said: ‘Because United are struggling, Rashford and Fernandes are desperate to score and not helping him, like Nunez last season its just whether you see him click into gear.’
Sturridge added: ‘It’s all about chemistry and having those conversations and getting understanding what he likes and what they like.
‘Once they get that comradery together then maybe he will get more opportunities, right now he is living off scraps a little bit,’ he added.
