Chelsea ‘submit proposal’ to land first January signing for Mauricio Pochettino
Exclusive: Shaun Wright-Phillips discusses Chelsea's transfer policy
Chelsea are reportedly the only interested club to have submitted a formal proposal for Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Moscardo. The Blues are battling a selection of Europe’s top sides to sign the 18-year-old, although they may have to up the stakes for Corinthians to green-light a January transfer deal.
Moscardo is among a particularly promising crop of emerging Brazilian talent set to take Europe by storm. The teenager, born in 2005, broke into the Corinthians first team earlier this year and immediately showed his class at senior level.
Shortly after making his debut in the summer, Chelsea reportedly submitted an offer for Moscardo which was ultimately rejected. Todd Boehly and co are believed to be positioning themselves to take a second bite at the cherry in January.
According to GOAL in Brazil, Chelsea are joined by Barcelona in making contact with Corinthians, but the Blues are currently the only team to have lodged a formal proposal.

Clarity on Moscardo’s future could be just around the corner as Corinthians have just elected a new club president. The former chief, Duilio Monteiro Alves, made it clear that any suitor would have to fork out at least £30million to land the youngster.
Chelsea’s offer fell short of that figure, and it remains to be seen whether Moscardo’s value has increased or decreased based on the Brazilian club’s presidential change, with Augusto Melo now stepping into the new role.

The Blues will be keen to keep relations sweet with Corinthians after reportedly leaving a sour taste with their low-ball summer bid for Moscardo. The player himself has spoken openly about a possible move to Europe, even name-dropping Chelsea as part of a diplomatic response.
“There was a proposal from Chelsea months ago, but I talk a lot with my agent and my parents and they try to give me as little information as possible,” he said earlier this month.
“They say there is not long until the end of the season, they tell me to dedicate myself and do well, and that at the end of the season, there will be good things.”
Moscardo already stands at 6ft 1in, and he has impressed scouts with his superb defensive output and eye-catching dribbling ability.
