Chelsea star Colwill ‘forgets he played for Brighton’ during rollercoaster win

Chelsea star Levi Colwill seemingly forgot that he spent last season on loan at Brighton until midway through celebrating his goal against the Seagulls. The 20-year-old’s header helped the Blues on their way to a precious 3-2 win against his former side.
The Londoners knew they had a player on their hands when Colwill, who was a teenager at the time, excelled on loan at Huddersfield Town and assisted them to the Championship play-off final.
Deemed not quite ready for the Chelsea first team but capable of handling a step up, Colwill was sent on another loan spell last campaign. And the defender took his game to another level at Brighton, who were reportedly keen to sign him permanently during the summer.
Colwill returned to Stamford Bridge and signed a long-term contract instead, and he has become a fundamental part of Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI this season.

It was therefore no surprise to see the Southampton-born star start against Brighton on Sunday, and he scored his first Premier League goal with a close-range header to put Chelsea two up, marking a huge career event.
So much so that Colwill seemed to forget his previous allegiance to the Seagulls as he roared in celebration while running towards the travelling fans. There was a visible moment of realisation, however, which prompted the youngster to tone down his antics and offer a hand of apology.

The Blues made life difficult for themselves against Brighton as Conor Gallagher’s red card ensured they played the entirety of the second half with 10 men. Pochettino was asked for his take on Chelsea’s disciplinary issues once the three points were in the bag.
“It wasn’t [a red card],” he said. “That is my opinion, maybe I am wrong. These types of things always happen when you are a young team. I want to clarify; not young players, a young team.
“We need to improve. We need to learn. The Premier League is the best league in the world and we have too many players that need to live and feel what it means to be in the Premier League.”
The red card means Gallagher will miss Chelsea’s upcoming trip to face Manchester United at Old Trafford, with Pochettino’s squad already depleted due to injuries.
