Champions League group stage draw 2022 live – Time, pots, and how to watch

Excitement is building for the start of the Champions League draw, where teams from around Europe will find out their opponents for the first stage of the competition.

Premier League sides Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham will all be hoping for a favourable group to ensure their safe passage into the knockout stages.

Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool will be looking to go one better in 2022/23 after suffering heartbreak at last season’s final in Paris.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will start amongst the favourites to win their elusive Champions League title to go with their dominant domestic success over the last few seasons.

Defending champions Real Madrid will be searching for a record-extending 15th European trophy, whilst French champions PSG will hope to finally secure their very first with a tantalising front three of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

And in Scotland, Celtic, and Rangers have both made it into the Champions League group stage for the first time in 15 years, after Rangers beat PSV 3-2 in their play-off tie.

What time does the Champions League group stage draw start?

It’ll start at 5pm UK time.

The draw for the group stage is being held in the Turkish capital Istanbul, which will host the final in June 2023 at the city’s Ataturk Olympic Stadium.

How to watch the Champions League group stage draw 2022

The draw will be shown live on BT Sport, who once again have exclusive rights to show Champions League matches in the UK.

BT will air the draw in full, as well as giving their own expert opinion before and after the draw has taken place.

What are the pots?

The full lineup of teams for the Champions League group stage is now complete, following the conclusion of the play-off round matches.

The 32 teams have been split into four pots, with teams in Pot one containing the Champions League and Europa League winners, along with the champions of the six highest ranked national leagues.

Teams in pots two, three and four have been seeded based on how well each club has performed in UEFA competition over the last five years.
