Barcelona are reportedly making a final offer to forward Ousmane Dembele in a meeting today despite Xavi ‘upsetting’ the forward with his stance on a new contract. The France international’s contract expires in June and he has been linked with several clubs around Europe.

Dembele is able to discuss a pre-transfer agreement with clubs outside of Spain, which would allow him to move at the beginning of July.

Manchester United are one of the clubs with whom Dembele has been linked with, while Chelsea and Newcastle have also been mentioned.

But the Liga side are supposedly desperate for the 24-year-old to remain at the club and have offered at least a couple of proposals.

The winger has stalled on a decision over whether to extend his stay despite reports in Spain suggesting that he would prefer to sign a fresh deal.

To lose Dembele on a free transfer would be a massive blow to Barca, who made the former Borussia Dortmund star the second-most expensive player in world football at the time following his £135million move in 2017.

And they have made one final offer to Dembele in a last-ditch attempt to make him stay.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Catalan outfit are desperate for the player to extend and will make one final proposal to him at a summit today. Cash-strapped Barca have, though, made clear that it is the best they can offer.

That, however, has not eased any tension between the club and the player.

The same report claims Dembele is upset that he has not been involved in any of the negotiations and has been left surprised by manager Xavi backing Barca’s stance.

Dembele released a fiery statement last week incredibly taking aim at ‘blackmail’ and insisting that he will no longer allow ‘lies’ to be made about his situation.

It is unclear who the comments are aimed at.

Part of the statement read: “It’s been four years since I’ve stopped reading things about myself without ever trying to justify myself. Gossip about me has been piling up for four years.

“For four years people have spoken for me, shamefully lied with a single purpose, the intention of harm me.

“I have been following my line of never answering for four years, of never justifying myself. Has it been a mistake? Surely.

“As of today, it’s over. Starting today, I will answer honestly, without giving in to any kind of blackmail.

He added: “I’m still under contract, I’m fully involved and at the disposal of my club, my coach, I have always given everything for my colleagues and also for all the partners… it is not now that that is going to change.

“I am not a man who cheats and even less a man who has the habit of giving in to blackmail.

“Surely love is a variant of blackmail 99. As you know, there are negotiations. I let my agent handle it, it’s his turf. My field is the ball simply playing football, sharing moments of joy with my teammates and all the members.”
