Aston Villa fans rave over Dean Smith’s rousing speech after Carabao Cup loss
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith knows there is no room to dwell on Sunday’s 2-1 defeat.
Manchester City lifted their third Carabao Cup trophy in a row with a narrow victory at Wembley after Sergio Aguero and Rodrigo found the net in the first half.
Despite a spirited fight back, Mbwana Samatta’s goal was in vain as Villa fans begun their trips back to Birmingham empty handed.
Despite the result being difficult to take, supporters were feeling confident in their team’s ability to avoid relegation to the Championship, with Smith’s rousing speech sending a defiant message.

Smith himself admitted that his side had too much to do after Guardiola’s side took the lead so early on, but remains proud of the effort his team put in.

“I told the lads I am proud of them. We went toe-to-toe.
“We were playing against a top team and we had to defend well. There was never any sense of a backward step and this pleased me more than anything.
