Arsenal star Ramsdale’s message to dad weeks before publicly blasting Arteta
Aaron Ramsdale had already sent a message to his dad insisting “it didn’t help” him speaking publicly on his situation at Arsenal before his father did it once again this week. Nick Ramsdale has hit out at Mikel Arteta in an interview weeks after his son said he did not want him to do so.
Ramsdale is currently out of favour at Arsenal, not starting in the Premier League since September. Summer signing David Raya has usurped him as the Gunners’ No 1 across league and Champions League matches.
Ramsdale senior has already been vocal since his son was dropped. Pundit Jamie Carragher hit out at the goalkeeper for clapping a Raya save in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham at the Emirates, comparing it to when an actor doesn’t win an award at the Oscars.
His dad took exception to Carragher’s comments, tweeting: “You are a Disgrace!! Show some class!! My lad has.”

Ramsdale was not happy with his dad’s tweet. He said in October: “This isn’t the first time my name has been in the press and it has been more negative stuff so I have drowned it out before.
“It doesn’t help that my dad does it – but it was on a golf trip in Spain with 19 other lads from the local pub – to be honest, I wasn’t too mad at him, he didn’t say anything out of turn, it’s just wasn’t helpful for the situation, he knew that. He obviously just had a few too many on the golf course!”
In the weeks that have followed, Ramsdale has remained on the sidelines at Arsenal barring a Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham. He is still in the England squad, although Gareth Southgate has warned him that he will have to play at club level soon to ensure he doesn’t lose his spot.

But despite his son’s clear message, Nick Ramsdale has again spoken on the 25-year-old’s current position. In an interview with Highbury Squad, he claimed Ramsdale has not been his usual self and also hit out at Arteta for not telling him his real role.
Nick Ramsdale said: “Aaron’s lost that smile to when he was holding onto that ball at this moment in time. And it is difficult. It really is difficult to see him there and we all keep saying you need to keep smiling.
“Aaron is going to be the cup goalkeeper, and David Raya is going to be the main man unless something happens, an injury or a sending-off. Aaron’s got to live with that and he is living with that even though he’s not been told it. By anybody.”
